The “Navigation Labor” Project was established as a unique response to the realities of wartime conditions, amid concerns that communities could become disconnected from access to medical services. The project launched in June 2024 in northern communities that had endured prolonged bombardment. In June 2025, it expanded nationwide, with dedicated focus and tailored support for the partners of reservists and career military personnel.
As part of the project, a nationwide mapping of midwives was conducted and a referral hotline for pregnant women was established. Connections between women and midwives were made based on geographic proximity, implementing the “village midwife” model. Midwives initiated personal contact, provided continuous accompaniment, and delivered professional support adapted to the security situation, including preparedness for emergency scenarios for women and their primary support persons.
Midwives were equipped with professional tools for pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period, and completed specialized emergency-response trainings. Collaboration with MDA (Magen David Adom) and United Hatzalah strengthened the care network, providing safe transportation solutions and improving coordination both in emergency situations and in routine times.
By December 2025, the project had provided support to over 2,000 women, including more than 400 partners of reservists and career service members.
The success of the project is grounded in strong partnerships—first and foremost through the trust and financial support of the Jewish Federations of North America, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, Federation New York, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, the Jewish Women’s Foundation, the Azrieli Foundation, and Outbrave Relife. We extend our sincere thanks to MDA, United Hatzalah, and the regional councils for their vital collaboration.
